Taking the SAT & ACT can be stressful, so here is a preview of what you can expect. If you know what is ahead of you, you might be able to tackle test day head on.
The SAT (scholastic aptitude test) is a standardized test for college admissions in the US. The SAT is comprised of 3 Sections.
- SAT Math Section - You have 70 minutes to complete the 54 questions. Of the 54 questions, you are tested on Basic Arithmetic, Algebra I & II, and Geometry. Points are scaled between 200-800 points.
- SAT Critical Reading - You have 70 minutes to complete 67 questions. Of the 67 questions you are tested on Critical Reading skills, Diction, and Vocabulary. Points are scaled between 200-800 points.
- SAT Writing Section (Including Essay) - You have 60 minutes to completed the Writing Section that includes:
- One - 25 minute Essay
- 40 Multiple Choice Questions
Points are scaled between 200-800 points.

The ACT (American College Testing) is a standardized achievement exam that is used for College Admission in the US. The ACT is comprised of 4 Sections that total 215 questions.
- English Section - You get 45 minutes to answer 75 questions.
- Math Section - You get 60 minutes to answer 60 questions.
- Reading Section - You get 35 minutes to answer 40 questions.
- Science Sections - You get 35 minutes to answer 40 questions.
Some Test Taking Pointers
- Be Prepared; bring all necessary items such as pencils and calculators.
- Space out your studying. Get started as early as possible. Do not procrastinate.
- Stress Buster : Exercising on a regular basis before your test date can help relieve stress & anxiety.
- When taking the test, first read the directions slowly & carefully.
- When taking the test, skim through the entire test to get an idea of how to pace yourself.
- Answer the easy questions first. If you don't know an answer, skip the question and come back to it. Be sure to answer all the questions, even if you have to guess.
- Use all of the time allotted. If you finish early go back and check your work.
